There are so many things that should be on the news, on papers that are never there and all we seem to be focused on is jacob Zuma's genitals, i admit i dont have much insight in arts or rather painting but this has been blown out of proportion and it is so unnecessary.
Brett Murray had almost a similar painting of the president and that caused such mutinies because he is white and there were marches to the Museum because the citizens felt it was disrespectful and undermining to the president. The president's manhood was shown in another painting of Ayanda Mabulu his painting went on display last night at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town wearing traditional attire with his penis exposed entitled {Umshini Wam} weapon of mass destruction.
Ayanda Mabulu was quoted as saying "In this painting i'm engaging my elder in the language of my mother tongue, the language that carries the culture of my people, the language he understands the most. through this painting, i respectfully as one of his children, ask my father why he starving us, why he negating his duties to his children, the citizens of South Africa" he says it is dedicated to the miners who died in the Lonmin tragedy the painting is aimed to "strip" Zuma of his suit and tie and bring him to the level of ordinary people.
Independent of the message the portrait conveys Zuma's genitals are not that appealing artists need to find a different inspiration if this is their way of getting exposure it's overrated and it should come to an end, if there's a message they need to carry across they should consider other means the South Africa i know marches the dresses their view, hence the results of Womes's right day, Youth day and the likes let's rather go back to that and leave Zuma's penis out of our grievances.
